Do you have a hosting with Bluehost and a domain with Godaddy or Namecheap? would you like to point your Godaddy domain or Namecheap domain to Bluehost?
Pointing your domain to your Bluehost account is the first thing you must do if you have a domain from another registrar, and would like to create a website with it from your Bluehost account.
This usually involves 2 Processes.
- Changing your domain nameservers of Bluehost nameservers.
- Assigning the domain as an Addon domain in your Bluehost account.
Without these, you will not be able to create a website with your domain from your Bluehost account. Unless you want to use the free domain associated with your Bluehost hosting plan.
I understand some persons out there might be having difficult pointing their domain to Bluehost. Hence, In this guide, I will quickly show you how to point your domain name to Bluehost.
Now let’s get started.
How to Point Godaddy Domain to Bluehost
Next, log in to your Godaddy account, under My Products section, you will find all the domains you have. Click on DNS in front of the domain you want to point to Bluehost.
This will take you to your DNS Management.
Next, while in your DNS Management page, scroll down to the Nameservers section. Here, you will find the current nameservers for your domain.
If you have not changed your domain nameserver before, your domain will be using Godaddy default nameserver. You need to change it to Bluehost nameserver.
Bluehost nameservers are:
To change your domain name server, click on Change, copy the first name server, which is ns1.bluehost.com and paste in the first row.
Then copy the second nameserver, which is ns2.bluehost.com and paste in the second row as shown in the screenshot below.
Next, click the Save button to save your nameservers. Your changes will reflect globally within 5 minutes to 5 hours. Sometimes, it can take longer.
How to Point Namecheap Domain to Bluehost
Next, log in to your Namecheap account and click Manage in front of the domain you want to point to Bluehost. You will find this in your Namecheap dashboard immediately you are logged in.
Clicking the Manage button will take you to your domain Nameservers section.
In your domain Nameservers section, select Custom DNS and enter Bluehost Nameservers in the first and second rows respectively.

Next, click on the green checkmark on the right-hand side to save your changes.
You have successfully changed your Namecheap nameservers to Bluehost. Your changes will reflect globally within 5 minutes to 5 hours. Sometimes, it can take longer.
Now you have changed your domain nameservers to Bluehost, the next thing is to assign the domain to in your Bluehost account.
How to Assign Domain to Bluehost
What you did is to change your domain nameservers to Bluehost. However, you will not be able to use the domain to create a website from your hosting without first assigning it to your hosting.
To assign your domain to your Bluehost account, log in to your Bluehost cPanel and click on Domains at the left menu section. This will take you to your domain page.
Next click Assign in the left section.
In the Assign Domain page, you are presented with 2 options. The first option allows you to assign a domain that is already associated with your hosting as an addon domain.
The second option allows you to associate and assign a new domain from another domain name registrar to your hosting account.
Select the second option, and enter your domain name.
If the Namecheap domain nameservers or Godaddy domain nameservers you just changed to Bluehost nameservers have reflected globally, Bluehost will confirm that you are a verified owner of the domain.
If your ownership could not be verified, it means the changes have not reflected globally. Try it after a while.
Next, choose addon domain. This will allow you to create a new Website with the domain.
Next, select the Create a new directory option and click on Assign this Domain button
That is all for pointing a domain to Bluehost.
